Vaccination

Chest infections can make ILD worse. Ask your doctor about the flu vaccine every year, the pneumococcal vaccine, and other vaccines recommended for you.

Avoid triggers

  • Stop smoking — ask your healthcare team for help.
  • Avoid birds, feathers, mould and dust if your doctor has linked them to your ILD.
  • Avoid smoke from wood or kerosene stoves and incense in closed rooms.

Travel

Air in aeroplanes has less oxygen. If you use oxygen, or get very breathless, talk to your doctor before flying — you may need oxygen on the flight.

Work and daily activities

Many people keep working and enjoying life with ILD. Plan activities for times you have the most energy, and ask for support when you need it.

Emotional wellbeing

Feeling worried or low is common. Talk to your doctor, your family, or other people living with ILD.
