Caring for someone with ILD is important work. These tips can help you support them — and look after yourself.
Helping day to day
- Learn the emergency warning signs and keep the 108 number handy.
- Help keep a simple diary of oxygen readings, symptoms and medicines to show at clinic.
- Encourage daily activity at a comfortable pace, as advised by the healthcare team.
- Keep the home free of smoke, incense and dust, and follow oxygen safety rules.
At clinic visits
- Come along if you can — a second person remembers more.
- Bring reports, scans and the medicine list (see Preparing for Your ILD Clinic Visit).
- Write down questions beforehand.
Looking after yourself
- Feeling tired, worried or low is common for caregivers.
- Share the load with family and friends where possible.
- Talk to the healthcare team if you are struggling — they can guide you to support.
